 History of Ajwa Dates

  • - Ajwa dates are believed to have been grown and consumed since around 5000 BC in the region of the prophet Moses.
  • flavour- The Islamic prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is said to have planted the first Ajwa date tree near the Quba Mosque in Medina. He greatly enjoyed the flavour of Ajwa dates and recommended that Muslims break their fast during Ramadan by eating them.
  • - There are numerous hadith (Islamic teachings) that highlight the spiritual and medicinal benefits of Ajwa dates. One hadith states that "One who takes seven Ajwa dates in the morning, remains under the protection of Allah from magic and poison for the whole of the day".

  •   - Spanish explorers introduced date palms to Mexico in the 1700s.
  •   - Date palms began being cultivated in the western United States in the 1850s.
  • - Today, there are nearly 100 different varieties of dates grown around the world, with Ajwa being one of the most popular and beloved.
  • - Ajwa date plantations still surround the city of Medina, and thousands of tons are exported from them annually. However, Ajwa dates are also grown in other parts of the Arabian peninsula and the Sahara desert.
